If I did Crochet...
There are a few times when I did wish I liked knitting and crocheting more. Like when E-patterns sends these emails with tthe daily special in them and its something like this sweater, blanket or some of the other patterns that I find that are just so cute. Then I remember that I live in Florida and that I never really find that it gets cold enough to use things like that... and that if it got damaged after all the hard work that I put into it that I would be soooooo upset. So then I end up talking myself out of it. Just like I talk myself out of letting Savannah use the baby blanket that she got when she was born. I know it is supposed to be used, and that is what it was intended for, but it is sooo pretty and soooo well done that I don't trust her not to mess it up. Hmmm, The sad thing is that I have good reason for not trusting her! I mean, she is a toddler.

that is a bad thing about knitting and crocheting while living in florida. the nice blanket (or whatever) sits on your lap and the very last thing you need is a cover up to keep the chill off. once i crocheted a blanket for a friends daughter. i crocheted 36 or 32 of these delicate hexagons and then hand sewed them together and put a beautiful edging on it, it looked like lace, it was so pretty. and then she put it in the washer and then the dryer and it all came apart. maybe i should have told her to wash it on delicate and lay it flat to dry. maybe that's too much work for a baby blanket. anyway, that poor torn up blanket is still in my closet (i think) because i told her i would fix it. i think the daughter i made it for is...4 1/2 almost 5 or something like that. oh well. eventually you just have to let go and let your stuff get used. i think i'd like to knit more than i like crocheting but i don't have time to learn and as far as i can tell, knitters like to make weird things (see below fingerless gloves and sweaters in previous posts (i love you marie;))) and i'd just end up knitting blankets and what's the point in that?
I don't know, I'm in the middle of knitting a really cool pillow. I know it sounds grandma-ish to have a knit pillow, but it is looking really good. Of course, like you Jo, I don't have much time to learn new skills, so it is simple and still not getting worked on too often. Perhaps one of these days.
Meagan, I hear you. I always love looking at the patterns and thinking about how wonderful it would be if I got it made, but the problem is I don't actually make it. And Dallas isn't much better than Florida for using all these knit and crochet items. Except for this summer. Rain every day, and now at 1:24 pm, July 5 it is only 74 degrees!! It is normally 95-100 this time of year. So strange, but I'm not complaining!
