Secret Santa

So, the general consensus was that we should do adults only for the secret santa. I think this is a good idea since this is the first time we are doing it. The only rule that I am going to suggest is that the gift has to be crafting related. I'm sure you all assumed this, but I was thinking that we should not limit our gifts to handmade ones. I think we should be able to send crafty books or fabric, etc. What do you guys think? Or do you think we should have to make handmade items?

I was thinking at first that I would be able to manage the assignments, but now realize there is no way without me knowing who picked me. So I found this website www.elfster.com. If you guys want to sign up, this would be a good way to ensure no one will know who picked who. Let me know if you guys are okay with this and if you want me to send the invite to a different email (one that you use for companies that would potentially sell your address to spammers). Also let me know if you have another suggestion for how to pick names.

Sounds great! Do we get to maybe get to pick a couple of items that we can put on a wish list? That way maybe it will be helpful for whoever gets that person? I don't know what do you think? I'm excited, I cannot wait, don't worry I will not send whoever I get one of my demented ball thingies, I promise!!!!

the elfster sounds like a good idea. yes, i'd want you to send it to a different email address. i lean toward the 'no wish list' camp because i feel it's limiting and guilt inducing if you don't get that person what's on their wish list. if it's about crafts i think just from reading past posts we could guess pretty well what people are in to and what they might enjoy. i am indifferent about it being hand made.

Elfster sounds good, but I would vote for not having to be hand made.... I am just not there yet with knitting and I doubt you guys would want a nicely scrapbooked page with pics of my kids.. hee hee!

I went to Elfster and registered, but I thik only one person really has to register and then send the emails to the others. Am I wrong?

I registered the group name Mothers of Invention.

It all sounds good to me. I also don't want to be limited to a "wish list" and don't care at all if it is actually hand made. Should we have guidelines on price?

yes.

i was thinking that setting a price limit might get a little complicated if we use stuff from our stash. although i do remember how much i paid for everything, what if i want to use some of my stash that cost a lot of money? or are we talking about limiting the amount of new money spent. but also, i was thinking that none of us are likely to go crazy with the spending since we are pretty frugal. i don't really want to have to worry about being limited to something like $20. but i definitely do not care if my secret santa spends $1 on me. i don't want this to be about who got the better present or who got jipped. but i think that we are mature enough to not feel that way without a price limit. i hope this is making sense.

i'm a little opinionated on this matter aren't i? i'm also open to being shot down on this issue.

i forgot to mention that i already registered us and i will need to send invitations to all of you. so if you have a different email you would like me to send the invitation to please let me know soon and i will send the invitations out.

good point about the price limit. i think we were talking about new money spent. but good point. if you just make something from stuff already in your stash then technically you've spent no money. which is totally okay with me so...

I agree that it should be the new money spent. If you are like me, than you are probably going to make a really cool thing out of scraps so it doesn't matter the price limit... but otherwise I think it should be limited to 5 or 10 bucks so that it doesn't go too high with shipping added.
