Getting Caught Up

Believe it or not, I've actually been knitting lately. I made Caleb and Shane matching hats last winter and Shane promptly lost his. I was nice enough to knit him another. Although, to his disappointment, I never miss an opportunity to remind him that he lost something I made for him. I'm such a meany. Here's Shane in his I'm-too-sexy-for-this-hat pose.

Months ago, I had some cash and couldn't help but spend it all on yarn that I didn't need. I have tons of Rown Big Wool Fusion in three colors. I thought that I should knit something and decided on this.

I do this all the time. I buy yarn I like and then settle on a pattern that I'm not in love with cause it's the best thing I can find. When I first saw this pattern I thought "oh. that's too bulky." But I saw that quite a few people are knitting it on Ravelry and I convinced myself that I'm just not getting it and if I knit it, then maybe I will get what all these other people see. Then I saw this:

I really love this. Unfortunately, I've already started on the other pattern. I have this much done:

What to do? The second pattern (the one I love) calls for 7 skeins. I only have 6.5 left that is unknit (not counting what I've knit up with the first pattern. So I was thinking that I will start on the second and hopefully will have enough to finish it. Then I can salvage the first pattern by turning it into a vest. I will have to do some finishing to make it look less rough.

I've also started on a sweater for Caleb using some of the yarn that Kainoa gave me, which used to be her tutu's. It's a size 3/4 and looks like it will be way too big for him. This makes too sweaters in a row that I've made the wrong size for Caleb. I'll try to finish this though.

The thought of making a WHOLE sweater still makes me terrified... but look at this pattern my friend sent me... http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall07/PATToblique.html
Isn't that nice. Her and I were thinking of making it together (so she can show me every step of the way what to do! ha ha ha

Nothing gets me excited like the thought of buying more yarn! I've looked around for a good substitute for the yarn she used since I can't seem to find it at the usual online stores I shop. Valley Yarns Berkshire is so cheap! It would only be $35 to make the sweater. The gauge is right on. I've found others that are off a bit and so you'd have to adjust, which I try to avoid cause it never works out quite right for me. Anyway, I'll keep looking

Wow, it comes in so may colors! What color would you use?

i like Stone Blue, but they don't have much left. I also like copper. Or maybe Periwinkle, or Red, or Grey! I can't decide, I love them all. I wonder how this yarn is since it is *so* cheap. I should look for some reviews online.

I found a review for Berkshire here. It sounds like it's an okay yarn. Not the softest, but since Oblique is like a jacket, it wouldn't be a big deal. Also, Webs (the store that sells Berkshire) offers a 20% discount on orders of $60 or more (has to be full priced yarn though.) I've ordered lots of yarn from them. Their sale yarn can't be beat.

BTW, I'll be in CA visiting my mom (and Kainoa too!) so I probably won't be posting 10 times a day as I have been.

Hey, that hat looks familiar! haha! I love it, so does Derrek since you made him the same one last year! I LOVE the sweater, the color looks great on you! You do such a great job I am jealous! I don't think I could ever knit. You need to move closer so you can show me how to do it, since knowing me I would get frustrated and give up! Great job though. I also love the swater you are making for Caleb with the yarn from my tutu. I was wondering what you made or were going to make with that! It will keep Caleb nice and warm. When you are done you have to send me of picture of him in it!
