just another day at work...

The picture's not the best, but this was my view Tuesday morning. And when I say morning, I mean early morning! My alarm was set for midnight, in order to be at work by about 1:30am, to see the launch at 2:30am. Not something I could do very often, but it was totally worth it. We were about 3.5 miles away, they don't really let you get any closer than that. It lights up the entire sky like it's the middle of the day, and the sound is just amazing. my pant legs were definitely vibrating. After it was over I decided to just stay at work, so I put in my 8 hours between 3 am and 11 am haha. It was crazy, and I was pretty delirious by the end of the day. I know this doesn't have anything to do with crafting, but I just wanted to share. Have a good weekend ladies!

Thanks for putting up that picture! I got to see a launch the summer of 1994. I was at the Teen Mission's Boot Camp in Merritt Island at the time and they bussed us over to some grassy area surprisingly close the the shuttle launch. I'll never forget it - so amazing that we can even do this stuff!

wow, that is totally awesome! you'd think i'd make a bigger effort to see a launch seeing as i live two hours from kennedy space center, but here's me every time: "oh, they had a shuttle launch? gosh, i didn't think they went in space that often." but i swear like every two months they're off on some other mission and i ALWAYS am shocked. my grandma lives in lakeland and she can see the shuttle launch from there. can you believe that?

OMG!!! That is so cool that you got to see that. I really want to take Shane to see one for his 40th birthday. I think it's a really big deal, so I'm giving myself enough time to figure out how the heck I'll plan something like that. But maybe I'm making too big of a deal about it. I'm with you Jo, I'm always surprised when I here about a launch.

I am so impressed! That is so neat. I can't help but think of how much my kids, especially my 5yr old would LOVE to see that! how neat that you were able to :)

it is pretty cool! it's definitely something neat to experience, but I can understand it being hard to plan for if you're from out of town. you just never know if it's going to launch when it's scheduled for. I believe the next shuttle launches are currently scheduled for May 25, August 28, October 16, and December 4. But, I highly doubt they will all go on those dates. If any of you do decide you want to try to come for one, let me know!

haha apparently there was another launch last night. Not a shuttle, but it was a GPS satellite on a Delta 2 rocket. See, even living and working here I don't even notice all of them.

oh my gosh, that's hilarious. seeing as how we live two hours away, i'd like to bring everyone over there. i'm supposed to be going over to melbourne to use a gift card for glasses and we'll go to the zoo that day, too. maybe we can fit that in, also. what do you think. or is that just way too much for one day.

well it depends on the timing. The May 25th one is set for 7:30pm. So you could do the stuff during the day then go find a spot to watch. I'd say bring a picnic dinner and try to get to a space to watch maybe 2 hours ahead or something, just because it can get pretty crowded and traffic gets pretty heavy. Also, i'd drive a further north than melbourne to get a better view. OK, I'll myself here, before I go on for too long. You know where to find me if you have other questions. :)

that was supposed to say i'll *stop* myself here.

Cool. You're in my neighborhood (or I'm in yours). My dh had to work both the shuttle and Delta launches. Ds and I set the alarm for the shuttle and got up to watch it, but it went into the clouds pretty quickly. Still, night launches are worth getting up for.
