First, I am happy to announce that I am now the proud owner of bunches of cloth diapers. I have been wanting to foray in to the cloth diaper world but have been wary to invest the money in case I hated it and so Tina graciously bestowed her Fuzzi Bunz and Bumpkins on me. I've got Lily in one already so we'll see how this goes.
Second, let me just say that here in America, I know that we have some really dumb food, like Swiss Rolls for example. What a pointless, waste-of-calories food. But the British just have some downright wacky, strange and off-colour foods. I mean who ever would name a food Spotted Dick (I would have got a link for you there, but I'm not about to type that into a search engine)? Uh, not me. I would be pretty darn sure that they wouldn't sell. But I guess in the UK, they go for things like Spotted Dick. We all tried it and thought it was almost as good as carrot cake, only it had raisins in it. Why didn't they call it raisin cake and why is it a pudding? These are things I just don't understand.
She also sent CurlyWurly. Yummy. This tastes just like a Sugar Daddy (also a dangerous word to type into a search engine), only coated in chocolate. Ho-boy, you can't go wrong there.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Tina! I don't really think you're lazy, you know. I was just joking about that.

I should clarify that a 'pudding' is any dessert. They do not have over here what we would call pudding. I think the Spotted Dick thing is hilarious! Never tried it, just can't bring myself to.
Hope you like the diapers, I would use them myself, but for the horror that is my washing machine. (combo wahser/dryer.... 3 towels totally fill the machine... so you can imagine with 4 kids trying to keep up on regular laundry alone....)
Let me know how it goes and NEVER underestimate the whitening power of hanging those things to dry in the sun!
I have a GREAT idea... This way no one will be left out!
I can send each of you out a small box of tasty british treats :-) Maybe even some Spotted Dick (if you are lucky) But first, Leah, you need to get your address on the list....
Oh, Joanna, I just cannot understand why you don't want to type spotted dick into a search engine! Oh, come on, just this once! :)
Lily look so cute with her new cloth diapers. You are a braver woman than I.
not braver, just a bit further down the path than you. i was saying that exact thing to tina when she was cloth diapering aidan. don't worry, a couple of babies later and you'll be jumping on the bandwagon. ;)
I cannot believe that I previously failed to comment on the very first line of your post! It is so wonderful that you have finally seen the light!
That is such funny names for food! Lily looks so adorable crawling already! Love the bald head!!!!!
That is funny about the cloth diapers.... Just six months ago I suggested them to you and you shot me down joanna! To shame, to shame. You will have to tell me how it goes though cause I am debating it too... maybe a half and half type thing to cut out some of the cost, but Mike is not too for it. He doesn't want to have to wash them all the time.
not that I get him to lift a finger to help with the wash these days.... It's pure luck if he even has to match the socks up!
Oh and have you checked out the soap listing for cloth diapers over at the clotheslikne alley site??? turns out you can't just use any old type of soap on them either.
tina, what is this address list you speak of?
Leah - we have a file that contains all of our important info like address, birthday, favorite colors, etc. I originally made it right before Christmas cause I thought it would make it easier to make/buy gifts for each other. I don't have your email though. So, if you could get my email from Meagan and shoot me an email, I will let you know all the info I need from you. Or Meagan, you could send me Leah's email.
Meagan, I am also considering cloth diapers. I considered it with Caleb, but Shane was not into it and being a first time mom, I didn't want to do it without support. But this time around, I don't think I care so much what he thinks since I'll be doing most of the work anyway. He's most concerned with the breast milk poop. You know, when they don't really ever pee and it's always runny mustardy stuff. Can't really plop that into the toilet. I'm concerned about it too, but I figure some kind soul will tell me how to deal with it by the time baby comes.
Oh, Marie that is the easiest!
The breast milk poo doesn't need to be rinsed. It sounds gross, but it is not... it all washes out perfectly. No need to dunk or scrape! And, when it all gets a bit yuckier you can buy diaper liners. (like a roll of toilet paper, but a bit more substantial) That way you just lift out the mess and flush it all in the toilet. They are pretty cheap, too...
Really? You just throw it all into the washing machine? That does sound gross. But I trust you. Although, I think I'd have to keep that to myself, cause I don't want to know what Shane thinks about that. But that makes me feel better that it's not a pain.
Spotted Dick is a really old pudding so then it wouldn't have had the same meaning that we attatch to the name now.
Jaffa Cakes are the best though right?
oh my gosh, those jaffa cakes were super yummy. we had a hard time not gobbling them all up in one sitting.
thanks for the info on the spotted dick. i sort of figured that because england has been around so long that the name was pretty darn old so it didn't have the same meaning now that it did way back when. but i'd sure be interested in finding out what the original recipe looked like.
