So I don't know if anyone else notices this too about themselves, but I have noticed that I go through phases of what I am interested in doing. Sometimes it is crafting, other times it's not. Right now its not. Well, at least I still think about it but never seem to pick up a needle and thread or any other sewing instrument. Case in point, I went to Joann Fabrics tonight and bought.... nothing. Not a thing. I thought about buying some ribbon to use as a blanket border, and then decided not to. Thought about buying a zipper and then chickened out on matching the color right. So I bought nothing. Not even one fabric remnant.... which Savannah would have protested not getting if she had noticed it go back on the shelf the third time I tried to put it back. (Yes I tried twice before to put it back to her protests but in the end I did win and she didn't even know it.)
So what am I into right now??? Reading. I have been itching to read lately. In fact I went on Amazon to buy some books, found 8 that I was swooning over, all from the same dealer. So when I get them, I am going to grab them and a nice big cup of hot chocolate.... ahhhhhhhh.
The only crafting project that I am thinking about starting is a blanket for midget 2. A while ago I found some pink... oh what's that material called with the fuzzy stripes.... on the remnants rack. Neither piece was big enough for making a blanket but together they would. I just can't figure out how I want to sew them together. I think I want to do squares that rotate the direction of the stripes.... (I will think of the name of the fabric soon...) but can't decide how many squares to do. I am thinking I can't go too small with the fabric squares cause then the seems will get to bulky, but I don't want just two rectangles either.... and I would have to back it too.... CHENILLE!!!! (that is the name of the fabric. I told you I would think of it.)
So anyway, any ideas on how to mix the two pieces of chenille without it getting too bulky????

I like the idea of squares while rotating the direction of the stripes. Then I would back it in satin. I love the combination of chinelle and satin. And babies seem to like the feel of satin too.
um, i'd make the blocks no smaller than 12" square, that way there won't be too much bulk. i agree with johanna, satin-backed chenille = yum-o combo. hey, i rhymed!
my "phase" right now seems to be "trying to find a place where we can afford to have this wedding". that seems to have been occupying most of my free time lately.
good luck with the blanket. if you did the 12" squares like joanna suggested, how many squares could you get out of the fabric you have?
i like 36"x36" and 36"x48" baby blankets. either way you'd have easy math if you did 12" squares. 3 squares by 3 squares or 3 squares by 4 squares.
usually I make it one yard worth so around the 36 x 45ish anount (the same as your christmas blanket), but I would have to pull down the fabric remnants to know for sure how big this one would end up being.....
I have never worked with chenille or satin.... Is it hard to work with???? Does the chenille pull apart easily at sewing seems???
Chinelle doesn't really pull apart, but putting the satin can be tricky because it is so sippery. You just have to use extra pins. Chinelle does fray...you might want to zig zag the edges.
So I pulled out the remnants that I have and they were two pieces 17 x 60 inches. I wasn't found of how big the 17 inch squares were, so I am probably going to cut them to 8.5 inch squares and take the chance on the bulky seams. But it still isn't wide enough so I am going to have to go buy another 9 inches of chinnelle so that it widens it out some. The only other way would be to border it and I think it would take away from the simplicity and babiness of it to add a different material in.
