I Have An Idea...

This happens to me a lot, where I'm just doing whatever and BAM! I'm smacked with a brilliant idea. Ok, so sometimes they aren't so good and they just fizzle away into a distant memory. Not sure what this one is, I'll let you judge. Feel free to tell me it stinks, if it does. I won't be offended. Ok, so here it is, I call it Recipe War. One week before the end of the month, we would post a quiz widget where everyone would vote on a type of recipe they'd like to submit to the contest (like breads, soups, slow cooker or cookies). From the first of the month through the fifteenth, we'd test recipes. Our entries would be due on the fifteenth, which we would post. Everyone would try out all the recipes from the fifteenth through the end of the month. Then we would vote on whose we think is best by using another quiz widget. Of course, you couldn't vote for yourself. And then the one with the most votes wins! Not sure if some sort of prize would be good, or if pride would be sufficient. Although, isn't that one of the seven deadly sins? Maybe we could take turns donating a prize. Oh! Maybe we could have a prize pot, where the winner could pick the prize the like best! Am I good or what?

Ummm.. if this sucks, seriously, I won't be hurt. I wonder if it's too much. I hope I didn't make it sound too complicated.

Soup sounds good to me! I added the widget on the right. You guys can add other suggestions if you like. It will only give us 6 days to vote, so I guess we can start the testing then. I'll be starting part-time work on the 19th, so I'll have more time to cook! Weeeeee!!!!

i meant recipe testing, if that wasn't clear.

I'm going to kick your ever-soup-lovin' bootie.

You better not use the soup recipe I gave you a couple weeks ago, Joanna! I totally hold the rights to that one!

Good idea Marie!

I've got a way better recipe than that. You can keep your soup.

so what would the timeline look like this month? i'll be on vacation for 12 days at the end of the month, so i'm sure i'll miss something.

i voted for soup because i already know exactly what recipe to use that is way better than yours *sticking tongue out*!!

ummm, yeah. I wouldn't have the foggiest as to where to start.... see how much I cook?!?!?!?!

leah, as much as i love timelines and sticking to a schedule, i'm going to refrain from being pushy about deadlines. it seems everyone has agreed on soup, so i don't think there's any point in waiting 6 days. so i think we should start posting recipes, if you have one already. that will work out nicely cause we'll be able to spread the soup making out longer instead of making 5 batches of soup in 2 weeks. some significant others might not appreciate that too much :) leah, hopefully we will all get our recipes out soon enough for you to try them all before you leave. i think it's good that you mentioned it so we can work around it.

What are the rules.... does this have to be, like, a totally original recipe of our own making???? Or can it be a recipe we found, doctored up, and called our own? Or a recipe that we stole from our great friend Patti and claimed as our own?

original? like completely made up? you guys are good if that's what you do. i just cook stuff pretty much straight from a recipe. so, yeah, i think that it could be recipe. although maybe we should rule out recipes received from others on the blog because as the jos demonstrated, that could cause some nasty brawls. but it does bring up copyright issues. is it ok to post a recipe that's from a book? i guess best thing would be if there is a link. not that anyone is going to go so far as to sue any of us, but i like to be respectful of someone's hard work.

You can post a recipe from a book, as long as you make it clear that who's recipe it is. I semi-frequent food blogs and I've seen lots of recipes from cookbooks posted, but they always give the author of the cookbook, the name of the cookbook and link to both of them.

I promise I won't use Johanna's recipe, she can use it. Plus, I think I'm going to use on that I made up all by myself, because I'm pretty darn proud of that.
