Finally - My All New Sewing Room!

I finally, finally finished moving all of my sewing stuff out of the room that will be our new nursery and into Ethan's old nursery (hence the babyish wall paper border) which is now my new sewing room! Jerry kind of lit a fire under me to get this done. Since he is starting grad school in August, he wants to get the baby's room done before he starts. (He thinks he might be a tad too busy to install wainscoat on the walls after that...) So last night, I got the last bit organized. I am really happy with it.

First of all, I now have my machine on a very sturdy solid oak desk. It isn't a true sewing table, but it sure beats the 6 ft. folding table it was on before. That thing shook like crazy when I made anything. When I embroidered a blanket and burp cloth this past weekend, it was so wonderful. The embroidery was even nicer due to the lack of vibration on the machine! I was also able to have all the drawers on the desk to have all my notions close by. I even used the deep file drawers to store my patterns in hanging file folders. It is really great! The other picture shows my cutting table. I love it because I can actually fit a full yard and a third of quilting fabric on that table. It makes trimming and pinning my blankets a breeze. It is our old kitchen table with a gridded cutting mat on top!

The other nice thing was that I was able to get all of my fabric out in the open. With my old set up, I only had the dark bookshelf for my fabric. Now I am using this white bookshelf too that I won't need in the nursery because there are some built-ins in that room that previously had books on them. Well they still have books on them, but I didn't say I was done cleaning out that room, only done removing all of my sewing stuff! Anyway, I had a lot of my crafting fabric and all of my quilting scraps, which are just the right size for applique and lots of little craft projects in blue plastic tubs (like the one pictured under my cutting table). Now I have it all out so I can see what I have. I have all my embroidery fabric on the brown shelf and all of my personal clothing and crafting fabric on my white shelf. I realize now that I have a wee bit of fabric to choose from! Who knew?? Now I just have to start sewing some more to use it all. Well, after I finish clearing out the new nursery - or else my hubby will have something to say about it!

Looks good! I used to have my sewing machine set up on a folding table also, so I know what you mean about the shaking.

It looks great and I am jealous of your cutting table.... I still have the floor if I want to spread out and the mat is rather small that I have for cutting... but since I don't do it for profit I guess it is all realtive.

Lovely. Now I don't want to hear anyone telling me that my stash of fabric is ridiculous. You guys just think about Johanna here and then repeat to yourselves, "Joanna's stash is reasonable, Joanna's stash is reasonable."

I second the jealousy of the cutting table. Can I move in?

Now, Joanna, you know everything on the brown shelf isn't technically stash because it is for work. Right? Only the white shelf is my stash. So everyone should really say, "Johanna's stash is reasonable." as well!

Well, sure, you can move in. I'm not sure where your whole family will go though. I suppose we could do what our parents did when they came to our house with you, Gabe, and 10 foster kids and line all the kids up in the back yard in sleeping bags. But they might get kind of tired of that after a while! Do you remember that? I know your parents got my room, but I don't remember what Jonathan and I did...were we outside with all of you? I just don't recall. Too funny.

I don't remember what you guys did either. I have about a thousand memories of sleeping in SOMEONE'S back yard as a child. Every summer we drove somewhere with our passel of kids and crashed in someone's back yard. I think it's likely you slept outside with us because that would have been the most fun. I'll have to ask Mom.

What I do remember clearly is catching frogs at twilight together. I had a thing for catching frogs. I guess it's no surprise now that God has given me three boys...
