Isn't This Supposed to Be Easy?

Caleb is still wearing all of his PJs from last winter and although the waists still fit, they are all about 2 inches too short. But I haven't been able to find any good deals on PJs and I just can't understand why they cost so much. I figured PJ pants should be pretty easy to sew. And so this morning, I whipped them up in less than an hour! I was totally impressed. Until I had Caleb try them on and they were about 3 inches too short and the waistband was under his armpits. Aghhhh! I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of it at the time.

I was about to shorten the top and attach an extra piece on the bottom, but then I realized that when I sewed the crotch, I sewed the wrong pieces together. So the pants were really upside down! Didn't I say that pants should be pretty easy to sew? I ripped out most of what I had done and fixed it.

I did end up adding an extra piece to each of the leg bottoms. The cuff is double-sided so when he gets too tall for the length, I can just rip out some of the stitches and make the pants longer. I also cut the elastic about 2 inches longer than needed, so I can lengthen it later. These should last a couple years :)

Those pants are too cute! You did a great job Marie! It's so funny that you posted making pj pants as I just got Derrek some fabric to attempt to make him some pj pants for this winter. I feel like it looks easy, but sometimes it can be confusing. At least I am not alone on this one! Caleb looks adorable in that picture and very happy with his new firetuck pants!!!!

I suspect that only the first ones are a problem. Now that I've done it, I think I could make another very easily. I was also thinking about making some flannel PJ pants for Shane. Is Derrek going to sew them himself, or are you going to make them?

No, I will sew them for him. I think maybe if he saw me gettting into it and I was skilled enough to show him how to do it maybe he would sew them himself, but for now I will sew them. I found some cute flannel so I want to make myself some too.Does Caleb love his new pants?

Cute! Good job. Actually, the directions for sewing pants are confusing. It took me several pairs of pants to get it.

Those look really really cute! Or, maybe it is just the model ;-)

Here's another idea: take some leftover fabric and add "cuffs" to the bottoms of his pants from last year. Cute pj's!
