Help!!!!! I am Drowning!!!!!

LOL.....

Okay anyways, I need help. I am drowning in Beans! Gulp.

Here are the bags of beans that I have..... (and they are all one pound bags, so the more recipes the better since I think we will be eating them for many more meals to come.)

Small Red Beans
Light Red Kidney Beans
Great Northern Beans
Lentils
Five Bean Soup
Garbanzo Beans
and a Green Split Peas.

Now that is a lot of beans I mean a whole lap full..... now, what do I do with them???? I mean, I can follow the directions on how to cook them but I need some Good Recipes. Did I stress GOOD recipes? Right now I don't think we ever use any beans in recipes except for the occasional chili recipe, but I haven't been to keen on using tomato products lately.... not that it really matters but the only one who would eat it in the house would be my hubby.....

But I am drowning in BEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the positive side though, I guess I could always make a couple sets of Bean bags for the girls to toss around!!!!!

How fond are you guys of soup? I have a marvelous recipe for split pea soup with ham, navy bean soup and Spanish bean soup (uses garbanzos).

Dude, garbanzo beans are chickpeas. Chickpeas make HUMMUS!!!

But if you've ever eaten at Columbia Restaurant on St. George St. in St. Augustine, you should have their Spanish bean soup. It is yummers! I found a recipe online for it: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976840863 But in the end I found a packet in the store for it and used that and loved every bit. Hummus is always wonderful as well!

wow, I looked at the Columbia Resturant one and wow, I don't think I have a ham or beef bone around here.... It looked good, but maybe a little fattening

The trick to any soup is to cook the ham bone, beef bones or chicken bones one day, strain it twice and then put it in the fridge overnight. You can easily skim all the fat off the next day and have a much healthier soup. And if you don't want to mess with a ham bone, get some turkey ham and just chop it up into the water - voila! Ham broth! Stay tuned for emailed recipes.

I have been trying to post links to a couple of recipes here, but haven't had any luck getting them to post - the blog is rejecting my html. I'm going to try one last time... With your great northern beans, I think this Garlicky White Beans and Broth recipe looks great. I also really like to make a recipe for Cow Girl Beans although we call it Cow Boy beans in our house! It calls for baked beans, but provides a recipe to make your own out of dried beans. I love, love, love beans and make them a lot since they are cheap and my whole family likes them. Last night I served black beans with roasted peppers and onions mixed in over rice. Nothing fancy, but it sure did satisfy!
