So I missed my day and this is a catchup post, so make sure you keep reading all about Johanna's Advent ideas when you are done here.
Advent has never been a big thing in our house. Savannah is just now five, and Zoe is only two, and it just was never an issue in our house.... well now it is. We don't really have any good ideas. I found one online through the crafty crow that used toilet paper rolls and that they painted, sewed the end shut and used like little cups. But it is just a big board with toilet paper tubes glued on it, and my toilet paper rolls aren't that nice.... mine are brown and they don't look like they would paint very nicely.....Last year I liked the idea of little felt envelopes with numbers stenciled on them. That one never happened though cause it was too much work during an already busy time.... I thought about buying little bags and doing this idea, but the cost was a factor there.... those bags aren't necessarily cheap when you have 25 to buy....
BUT THIS YEAR WILL BE DIFFERENT! I have collected toilet paper tubes, I have gathered the leftover candy, and I have bought an extra roll of wrapping paper. Though it will not have any Christian message to it (unless anyone can think of a way to make it so), at least I will not get the "Is it Christmas yet?!?!?" question ten times a day. Yeah they are just a little excited around here...
My idea is that I am going to take the toilet paper tubes, cut some in half, put some of the leftover candy in it, wrap it up tootsie roll style, and hang them on a string, out of order. (We are working on number recognition with Savannah, and though she already knows one through ten, the upper numbers are still a challenge.) Then each day, we will pull down the correct package, and each will get some candy.... and it will keep me from being able to raid the leftover Halloween candy!!!!!
Hopefully I will get it done tomorrow while Savannah is in school..... and maybe I will even get a picture up before this post gets buried too deep....
And Maybe by next year I will get my act in order.....

Here is a printable advent calendar from my church http://www.ccontheweb.info/newsletter/documents/CC_AdventCalendar_Dec2010.pdf
I like the idea of using the toilet paper rolls. Very eco-friendly :) I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product!
