Alright, what is the deal? I was awoken this morning to the reminder that my dryer is retarded. I stumbled out of my bedroom to the sight of Lily's beautiful quilt and was reminded about...(evil music) "The Smell". When we first moved into this apartment I found that the dryer is...retarded (is there any other word for it?). It makes things smell. Like I bought a $100 dress from Eddie Bauer on sale for $13. It's cotton so it's machine washable and dryable, so I washed and dried it. When I took it out of the dryer it had this...smell. Rancid, it hurts my nose to smell it. I've never smelled anything like it before. Three shirts I bought for Rachel (on sale for $1 each at The Children's Place) all had to be thrown out because of "The Smell". It's always on one or two things in the dryer and not the whole load. It has nothing to do with the fiber of the item being dried. Del had a pair of black slack socks and one of the socks got "The Smell" and the other didn't. So, I washed Lily's quilt and IT GOT "THE SMELL"!!!!!! I'm so upset. I'm going to take it to my parents place to wash it there. If that doesn't get it out I'll get it dry cleaned (that's how I got the smell out of the $100 dress). Evil evil evil.
THEN!!! Marie got me this Starbucks tumbler from Hawaii several years ago. It's my very favorite tumbler and I drink coffee out of it more than any other cup in the cupboard. Well, I was putting it in the dishwasher last night and I BROKE IT but I didn't find out about it until I tried to put my coffee in it this morning. Please picture me, in the fetal position on the floor wailing and having a moment.
Evil Morning...

The Smell? that is the weirdest thing i've ever heard. it figures that it happened to that beautiful quilt. i hope you can get The Smell out.
as for the cup, this couldn't be better timing since we will be in hawaii in exactly 5 days from now.
i like the flower picture... for now.
I think that for that morning you can be allowed several "moments" on the floor in the fetal position! I hope you get the smell out of the quilt, though...
Yeah I agree, all of that was good reason for a moment. I probably would have had a little bit of grumpies all day too.
Maybe "the smell" is caused by an item getting overly dried. As it starts to singe a little it starts smelling horrible, I should know, I have done it. Doen't explain why the dry cleaning would get it out though....
Anyways, hope you get it out. That is a lot of work for that to happen.
Marie, have fun in Hawaii!
update: i took the quilt to my parents apartment this weekend and it got washed and dried. it smells fine. that's a good thought meagan. maybe i'll start putting the dryer on "less dry" instead of "more dry" even if i have to run it 1 1/2 times. now i want to experiment with the quilt...hmmm...
You know, the strangest thing about my dryer is that it actually dries the clothes faster on the gentler permanent press cycle than on the regular cycle and I am having a lot fewer problems with clothes coming out smaller and weird since I quit using the regular setting on mine. I quit asking why, I just go with it! I am so glad the quilt no longer has "the smell" though. I am sure your heart sank when you first noticed it on all your hard work!!
