The Insanity Never Ends

I've actually been pretty busy making stuff. I just don't have the time, energy or frankly the butt fat to sit on this stool and post. I've gained 33 pounds since I conceived this little one and I still have another 7 weeks to go. The extra weight really works me over. I think it's strange how I gain one pound a week while I'm pregnant. I invariably weigh 138 pounds by the time I deliver. Oh well, at least I'm consistent about something in my life.

Alright, first I made these matching skirts and headbands for Ella and Sarah. The headbands aren't in the picture because I couldn't find them, sorry.I didn't make one for Rachel because she's too short for a lot of dresses; she trips over them and she gets mad. The pattern was ridiculously simple and was handed down from some other person that had daughters in the '80's but it still applies today. It's just a rectangle that you put some elastic in and all the sudden it's a skirt. Mom and dad brought this fabric home from Hawaii for me. I did think that Rachel needed something Hawaiian since Ella and Sarah had the skirts and so I made this. I used one of my dad old shirts since Del doesn't do Hawaiian print. The pattern Meagan found here. It turned out to be more difficult than she says it is (I think her words are "so ridiculously easy") but two things specifically factored into the rise in difficulty level for me: 1) the fabric was not cotton, it was some sort of rayon or whatever and therefore slippery and irritating to work with, 2) I had not my sewing machine. I had my mom's. Mom is a life long spend-thrift. She purchased a Brother from...Wal-mart or something. She spent maybe $200 on it. I spent very nearly $600 on mine, actually it was an early anniversary gift two years ago from my handsome and wonderful husband. My machine is smooth, easy to control, easy to understand. Mom's machine is awkward, bulky and has two speeds "no go" and "faster". I will never again wonder if I did the right thing in picking out a Viking for my first real sewing machine (my actual first was my grandmothers Singer that she bought in 1948; it flips down into the sewing table).

I have finished all the Little Artist Drawing Cases, except for Rachel's. I have four cereal boxes and all I need to do is put that in and come up with a new closure method since the button is too loose and the magnet is too tight. I am going to try a snap. I think I'll put them on at the dining room table in case I decide to go "Johanna's method" and put some holes elsewhere; the dining room table is destroyed anyway so it wouldn't matter. This is the fabric I've picked out for Rachel's. I bought the four contrasting fabrics but I can't pick which ones to use. I may have to raid my stash. What do you think?

I made the binding for my baby quilt. I'd like to get it on this weekend as I still have to finish the lesson plans for school. I think the fabric I picked for the binding is really cute and I can't wait to see the finished product. I can hardly believe I actually made a quilt, a pieced entire quilt AND it's for MY kid. Wow! That's fabulous!
I attempted this as a maternity skirt that I altered from another pattern but I didn't make it big enough. It's simply going to have to wait until after I'm no longer as large as a house. I like it though, I think it's neat. I like the little flounce at the bottom I added to it and I also like that I didn't finish the edge. I just sewed a line all around so that it won't unravel.

I think that's all I've done the last couple of weeks. Today I have contracted a cold and have really bad round ligament pain. Tina had her baby on Wednesday. They named him Jack after Aaron's grandfather. I tried to convince Del that we should name our daughter Jillian so that we could have Jack and Jill. Del didn't go for that one. He likes Lily now. What do you think?

A few thing...first of all, some of us would love to weigh 138 NOT pregnant! Second, the Hawaiian stuff is great! I think you have the best dressed little girls. Third, the "Johanna Method"???? What's up with that? Anyone could have made that mistake...Finally, I think I still like Lily too.

HA! ok, the weight throws me for a loop because 40 pounds is nearly 41% of my normal body weight. if i normally weighed 138 then 41% added to that would be 194 pounds. it's a big jump for me, my bones go into shock.

i thought you'd like the "johanna method". i was giggling pretty good to myself while i was typing that up.

so, if we name her havah people will say "havah nagilah?" it's actually chavah, but then you have to spit to say her name and that's weird. so we're going with lily. i like it a lot and plus her initials won't be HIM.

Okay, I won't begrudge you for your weight. I started out with Aaron at 138 and only got up to 175 - felt as big as a house. if I'd gotten to 194, I would have really felt yucky. So, when you put it that way...

I also forgot to say that I love the skirt. Great fabric! How did you add the flounce? I have a basic pattern that I was thinking could use "something" and that might do the trick!

lol.. you are so cute, Jo. So you as big as a 2000 sf house, or a slightly smaller one??? jk.

Lily. I like it. I figured out what gave me pause when I first heard. elLa, saRah, raChel... There just isn't the strong sound in the middle. However, I don't think it is anything that matters. Besides, it opens up the family to a whole new set of names for the next one. :)

so you will have gained a little over 40% of your body weight. that's actually pretty significant. we went hiking this weekend and i had to carry caleb a good part of the way and i was thinking that it was kinda like when we went hiking when i was almost 6 months pregnant. it sucked both times to be carrying the extra weight especially when he took a nap on me and went all limp. anyway, too bad none of that weight is going to your badonkadonk so you could make longer posts :)

all the clothes you made look really cute! i can't wait til you aren't so humongous and can model the skirt for us ;)

ok, so i didn't even read the comments and just now saw that you already pointed out the 41% thing. also, about the name, i'm glad you aren't going with jillian. that name is ruined for me. but i do really like lily. i think havah is my fav but i can understand that it would get annoying to know that everyone is pronouncing it incorrectly, even if it were unintentional.

nobody said which contrast fabric they liked better.

you'd think that i would have gotten around to it at some point during one of my three other comments. I like the pink the best and the orange second. i think it should be more colorful since it's for a kid.

I agree with Marie - Pink first, orange second. The others blend in too much for a spunky kid!

that's what i think, too.
