Ta-Da!

I am finally satisfied with this version of the fingerless gloves. Here is why it took me so long to finish...

In the picture above, can you see how the edge of the thumb looks kinda bulky? well that is because the directions say to knit extra rows, then fold the excess inside and tack it down. i wasn't too pleased with this when i did the thumb but i figured since it was so small i could live with it. but i was supposed to do the same thing with the edge around the fingers. i actually did the whole folding inside and tacking down thing, but it looked terrible because the rest of the glove is so thin and delicate looking. that bulky edge just didn't work at all. plus, it was inelastic and i struggled to get the glove off and on. i mean, i could have dealt with it but i figure that if i'm going through all this trouble i should end up with something i feel is way better than anything i could buy. cause if it isn't, what's the point? so i tried so many different endings. plain stockinette cast off, picot edge, scallop edge.... finally i did a plain old purl cast off and brilliant!! it's the perfect tension and its subtle, not drawing any attention away from the lace pattern. i think that it worked so well that i redid the thumb.

and now it just slips on and off. perfection! now i just have to do it all over again for the other side.

Well, I like how they turned out. Being from FL, and it being summer right now it is hard to imagine a need for them, but come Dec I'll be wishing I had a pair!

i have to say that it looks VERY pretty but i still miss the point of the gloves. for knitting or...i mean don't your fingers get cold. i know that i'm mostly an intelligent being but for some reason i cannot wrap my brain around this one. maybe because any sort of glove invokes fear of cold and my brain turns off? very very pretty though. and you're right, delicate is a good word for them. good job! it looks GREAT!

Those are beautiful. You did a great job finishing the edge. I like the way the purl cast off looks, it is simple so it doesn't take away from the lace, but still a bit elegant. Knitting is still so beyond me, but I do want to learn it because you cannot crochet something that delicate!

i know this sounds weird but the more i look at that thumb the more i think i like the first picture better than the second...

I'm not sure that I agree that I like the first picture better, but I think I know why I might. Even though the opening is bulkier in the first one, it is shorter - ending below the knuckle just like the rest of the fingers. In the second picture, it is longer so it covers the joint in the thumb. Could that be it?
