Here is a picture of my first tier to the two tier skirt. I don't really like the feel of the material but couldn't find any material that I really liked when I was at Joann fabrics today, so I decided to try it with this one. Because of that somewhat dislike of the fabric, I haven't measured much of anything. Hopefully it will get put together somewhat decently. If it goes in the trash though it is quite alright cause I am pretty sure that it is way too big to fit my darling.
So far it has bee pretty easy to make. Just don't break your tread as you are gathering it. If you want the full instructions go

So I have decided that there must be a conspiracy of some kind going on. I mean the only "Great" fabric that I can find lately at Joanns is in the fat quarters. Here is the problem - What happens when you need more than a fat quarter can provide???? All the bolts are such lame patterns, or not what is needed (how many things can be made with prints of dogs on them???) that I find it annoying to go there anymore. However, there are no other real fabric stores to go to around here... that doesn't take my arm as payment. Ugh. Maybe I will try a little store in town tomorrow while I am out.
i agree about joann's. sometimes they have the quilters premium stuff that's is 7-10 dollars a yard and you can use a 40% off coupon to make it cheaper but really...i'm uninspired by joann's fabric. it's basic flowers and gaudy graphics.
i think the skirt is cute though. i think you should finish it and keep it until she fits it. i thought it was funny that you put that link up because the day before you did i found that tutorial also and thought "wow, i should show this to meagan". ha ha!
I think it looks lovely. In fact you have inspired me to try one. I know, I know - for whom?? I realized that the tutorial is for a girl who wears size 5-6 and I have a niece who wears size 5! And I have lots of fabric in my stash that will work, so why not?
I do agree that if I were making clothing, I'd be frustrated with JoAnn's selection too. However, for burp cloths, blankets, and other gifts, it is just right!
Yeah I thought about that too, but then I decided that unless the flowered material washes better than I think it will, and becomes a lot softer, then it just doesn't look like it would be comfortable. Maybe I will finish it and send it to Ella. I hear she is growing out of her clothes rather fast.
i agree with you johanna, they have a lot of good stuff to make baby items with. it must be like candy land at joann's for you! wow!
if you do send it to ella, meagan, you can believe that it would be well loved!
Cute skirt, I am sure it will turn out beautiful. I love the 2 layers!
I wish I could wear one!!
