Cold Comfort

I know, I know, I live in Florida. How cold can it possibly get here? Well, not too cold but still, when the fall rolls around and there's a little nip in the air I really like cozy pajamas and warm oatmeal in the morning. I found a recipe for overnight oatmeal using steel cut oats. I tried it once with rolled oats and that was a big mistake, don't try it. And here are the pajamas I made for Del. They came together very quickly and I had enough of the brown plaid left over to make Ella another night gown. Don't they make a nicely matched pair? The other two are frogs and cow print. They're pretty darn funny. He such a good daddy; when we looked for fabric together he picked out the cow print and the frog print "because the girls will like it." I think I'll whip up some pj bottoms for myself. I haven't had new ones in three years and I am seriously in the pajama-sewing mode!

They look so perfect together! Father and Daughter, I love it! Steel oats? Isn't that exensive, my grandma used to get that at a health food store, but I am still not sure what it is. I like Quaker Old Fashioned Oats with dried cherries in it. Not to go in circles, but I think you deserve some pj's for yourself!

They are really cute together.

I make overnight oatmeal a lot. And I am with Kainoa - I like mine with dried cherries or blueberries cooked into it!

well...that oatmeal recipe was a disaster. the oatmeal was mush. i think i should start it at midnight instead of 10:45. i put cranberries in it. the can of steel cut oats was 3.49. i certaintly like the idea of overnight oatmeal but i haven't been able to make it a success yet. the closest i've come is a recipe i found on another blog but you still had to bake the oatmeal the next morning, so it wasn't really overnight oatmeal. i think the oatmeal seriously lacked flavor also. some cinnamon would have been a nice addition.

steel cut oats are oats that haven't been processed except to cut them into smaller pieces. when they get the oats they steam them, roll them, steam them and toast them so it will cook quicker; that's rolled oats. for quick oats they cook the rolled oats, dry it and slice it even thinner so that it will cook up quickly. i don't care for quick oats myself, i like old fashioned and i really really want to like steel cut. i think the toasting of the rolled oats gives it a yummy flavor. i wonder if i can toast steel cut oats. did you know they are also called irish oats. i think i will call them irish oats from now on because it's more fun.
