Brainstorming

Triplets.

My friend from Bible Study, Sarah, and her husband, Chris, are expecting Triplets! Her due date is within a week or two after mine, but being that it is triplets and their first kids, the baby shower and all is coming up pretty quick! (I think they are planning that there is going to be bed rest involved too so they want to do it before then) Anyway, I have been racking my brain trying to think of what to make (I would rather make something rather than buy, but it can't be too elaborate of a project since I have to make three of whatever it is). I have thought that maybe I would make three elephants, or maybe three baby blankets. Everyone gets baby blankets though. I also thought about making some onsies with cute triplet sayings, like "one of three" or ....

I also know that they have sleep sacks on the registry at Babies R Us but I could make them instead of buying them. I picked up the pattern at Hobby Lobby's last pattern sale since Mike and I love them so much and used them like crazy with Savannah. However, they are due in the beginning / middle of summer, and I can't imagine the sleep sacks being to useful at that time.

So what to do, what to do. I guess I could make one big item instead, but what would that be???? ugh.

Of course, I absolutely vote for the elephants! But they're not super practical and you'd want to talk to Joanna about a better way to attach the ears than the book gives.

Triplets...wow.

I LOVE the elephants, but also think the sleep sacks would work as well. Either big for when it is colder, or a sleep sack made from a thin flannel or cotton. I know I always covered my babies in blankets even when it was warm... just made it lighter blankets. Can you tell that I really love my sleep sack?

yeah, i sort of think the sleep sacks are still a good idea as long as you make them from thin material. june isn't quite as hot as it gets here and even in august, when lily was born, i still covered her with a receiving blanket.

the elephants are SSSOOOOO cute. as for the ears i'd do one of two things: 1)sew them on the elephant with your machine before you piece it together, or 2) use a thick thread, like quilting thread and use teeny little stitches (read LOTS of stitches). if you do that latter you can make it look vintage like johanna did with some scrappy hand sewing (which i thought was adorable) and also, we had talked about using a bit of extra fabric or stabalizer to reinforce the tail.

So I was going through my other pattern book last night and saw the idea of making cute little baby booties. I think that would be cool to do. Maybe I could make matching shoes for the three kiddos. They looked rather straightforward to do and not that time consuming. Who wouldn't love that too????
