Mac-Girls

Sarah is taking a ballet/tap/tumbling class and she absolutely loves it. She likes all the noise the tap shoes make.
Ella is taking a ballet class. She's a very dilligent student.

Johanna made the aprons, aren't they so cute?

yes, they're going to have a recital but it will cost us $250 to put them in it and we're trying to buy a house here. we just can't afford it.

my grandma got totally fed up with the hair always being in her face so she gave her a cute hair cut with bangs and everything. she likes and and we like it, too.

$250!!???? why in the world would it cost that much to coordinate a recital? or are they trying to make money off of it? that's sounds so weird to me.

there's a $50 fee each for renting the building and $75 a piece for the costume...a pointless outfit that they will never wear again except to dress up and that and expensive piece of dress up clothing if you ask me!

too bad they won't let you make their outfit! I bet you could make cute outfits for about $5 a piece! or maybe $10. but with $75, imagine what you could make! you could dress them in gold foil. do you watch project runway? i'm in love. everyweek their budget is about $100 and they make the most amazing stuff that would probably retail for hundreds. it makes me wonder how much it cost Banana Republic to make those $118 dress pants that I drool over. I wish so much I was an expert seamstress and could sew all my own clothes. I've been looking into taking a sewing class nearby, but you know... it's just one more thing on my to-do list for now.

What kind of place were they renting? When I taught piano, I always found places that were committed to the arts so they were willing to rent the space for cheaper.

But they sure are cute! Oh, and I agree that for $75, they should get a whole dress up wardrobe!

can you believe it's the school auditorium. she said they charge something like $5000 to rent it. the outfits they picked out for ella are really pretty but the one for sarah is typical tap tacky with the neckline going down under one arm and over the other shoulder, if you can imagine it. i could totally get some tulle and make some cute stuff for way cheaper than $75, you're right.

ok, if you go to art stone costumes and then click on the (1) tots, teens and in between and then scroll down to the bottom and click on the "next" page until you get to page "current page - 15" (i think you click next 4 times), it's the hot pink one that says "precious" and the "bustle" is the skirt they're using. i think it's tacky as all get out. sorry i couldn't just give you a link. that's the costume for sarah. i'm still looking for one similar to ella's.

Joanna said...

ok, ella's is a mixture of this and this. like i said, pretty, but expensive.

i actually don't think the pink one is that terrible, but maybe it's just me and my current hot pink obsession. but oh! my! gosh! those poor little girls all made up with that trashy make-up! why? why? why? would someone put make-up on a little girl? they're just cute enough without it. why mess with perfection, i say.

i love the first one you linked to for Ella. i can see her now, prancing around in it, doing twirls. ... i better have a girl next.

yup, i think i don't want them in the recital for other reasons besides the cost, like the make up. i don't want them to wear that trashy make up, i don't want them to learn to be vain...it's a lot of things.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd want my 4 year old daughter in the hot pink number either. Especially with all the make-up and all. What happened to the cute pink ballerina we all picture from story books?

well the makeup and stuff never changes. My niece is at point and has to wear full makup and the hair has to be in a tight bun with no strands lose or she isn't allowed to go onstage. Plus, when in a performance (she is in the Colorado ballet every year doing the nutcracker among others) she has to be at rehearsal at like 5 in the morning and then after school too till like 9. I don't think I would ever want savannah doing it just cause that is all that she would ever do, not to mention that I am not into her ever wearing makeup and revealing dress.... at least not till she is 50!

i know, my issues all come from, tight, revealing clothes to obsessions with the stuff. i don't blame you. sometimes i'm wondering why we let them, but, they asked. if they'd never have asked we wouldn't have put them in. what i'd really like for sarah especially is davidic dance classes.

i took tap and ballet when i was around that age. i remember it being lots of fun. if it's any consolation, i had to wear all that awful makeup too, but nowadays i rarely wear any at all. i probably didn't like wearing it at the time either.
