Goodtime Beef Brisket

Derrek and I made this once and we really liked it, I hope that you all do to. Here is my submisson for Crock Pot recipes courtesy of the Fix it and Forget it Cookbook.

Goodtime Beef Brisket
31/2 to 4 LB beef brisket
1 can beer
2 cups tomato sauce
2 tsp. prepared mustard
2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 small green or red bell pepper (chopped)
1 medium onion (chopped)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Place meat in slow cooker. Combine remaining ingredients in a bowl and pour over meat. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Remove meat from sauce and it will fall apart (or you can cut it) and serve on rolls or with potatoes. P.S. We used this meat to make french dip sandwiches and it was delicious!! Ok everyone now go dig your slowcookers out and fire them up! I know I will!

Cool, sounds good Kainoa. One of the things I miss most about living in Texas is being able to go just about anywhere and find yummy, authentic Texas-style beef brisket. It's my favorite.

This sounds great! Adding the beer is interesting. I've never bought a brisket. When I go to the store, is that what it'll be called or is there another name?

ok, so i just saw brisket "on sale" at one of the supermarkets near us and it's $3.99 a pound! is that normal? why is meat so expensive? i still haven't made joanna's chicken cause i'm waiting for a good sale, which I'm starting to think isn't going to happen. ugh!

3.99 a pound is decent, not too expensive. I guess I am crazy then for wanting to buy standing rib roast for 9.49 a pound to make as a surprise for Derrek. I guess the reall surprise would be for him when he saw the grocery bill! LOL. I pretty much use whatever type of meat is one sale. Once I made it with TRI Tip cause it was 2.99 a pound and tri tip is great. Or you can use london broil because in actuality once it cooks in the crock pot for some long even cheaper meat will be fall apart tender like the recipe. On the part about the beer, I found that weird too and I just put red wine in it once too, it does cook down and add to the flavor, but I sure you could omit that ingredient and it would still be wonderful.

Thanks for the extra info Kainoa! I'm glad that I can use a different kind of meat. I might just go ahead and buy the brisket though since I've never cooked it and would like to see if I can tell a difference. I was just be a whiner. Caleb doesn't get his whininess from Shane :)

I don't think the beer is weird. I think it sounds really good actually. I tried to make pizza dough once that called for beer, but it just wouldn't rise. I tried it twice. I was so sad :( Doesn't that sound awesome?
