Savannah's Birthday - Mickey Crafts

So I have been busy craft wise, cause Savannah turned four! She chose Mickey Mouse as her party theme and asked for it to be a picnic.
Now I could have gone out and bought the traditional mass marketed party supplies, but instead, we made most of the party supplies, with the exception of the napkins and party horns.
I bought plain black cups at the dollar store, and we hot glued Mickey mouse paint chips (Home Depot has everything you need) on the side of the cups. For the kids I used single color mickeys, for adults I mixed the colors. That way the kids could tell which cup was theirs by the color....
We made picnic sacks, for the picnic. I drew the characters on paper, colored them and then drew the hat accessories on poster board, which the kids then had to find in the front yard.... then each was able to get the lunch bag to take to the picnic.... Here's a picture of the lunch sacks. In Mickey's bag was mickey mouse shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.... Minnie Mouse had cheese sticks.....After lunch we did Mickey Mouse stamping, where the kids stamped Mickey on little bags. Those were their party bags that they then got to take home at the end. The bags were four for three fifty or something like that at Hobby Lobby.... They worked great!
Also if the above picture you can see the party hats that Savannah and I made before the party. We printed off the hat pattern on plain white paper, then Savannah painted them black. Mom had to use hot glue to put Mickeys on, so Savannah wasn't able to help then. We they used yarn as the band under the chin but the wind was so strong that they were unable to actually wear them at the party. The last game was Where'd my hat go? Goofy lost his hat and the kids had to put it back on his head. basically pin the tail on the donkey but with Goofy and his hat.
Now before you think I am a good artist, I have to admit I pulled all the characters up on the computer and traced the original off the computer then worked on them from there. The only two characters I really had to learn to draw was the professor and Clarabelle, since they are not core characters on the show. I had to pause the TV for them and study the lines and wing it.....
I had also meant to do Toodles, and have him be the one to bring the missing plates for the party guests and stuff but it just didn't work out that way.... Oh well.

Cool Meagan. Very creative!

that is spectacular. Seems like a really neat way to involve the kids and help them to understand the beauty of making it yourself instead of buying everything ready made! :-)

The paint chips were a great idea, but also kind of a pain too, since I had sooooo many to do.

We did have a blast making all the party supplies.... Since I could slow down the school type stuff though it worked out.... but then I felt it had been forever since we did any school by the time we got back to it.
