Sewing Machine Help!

So I have asked for a new sewing machine for Christmas this year. So now I am trying to decide what machine I want... or more importantly what features I want in a sewing machine. My mom and I found a reconditioned Pfaff at like half off that was barely used that would make a great machine for me, but it doesn't have the needle up and needle down button, and it doesn't have the push button start and stop lock stitch. BUT, it does have the built in walking foot which I hear is ten times better than an added on walking foot and a lot less hassle to work with. I think that would make more sense to me than the other two features, but thought I would see if anyone had any input first!

the walking foot is very helpful. i know that the needle down thing is supposed to be the bomb but i don't have it on my machine and i really don't find that i need it. once in a while i will need to have the needle down and forget to do it myself or something and that's a bit annoying but it's NOT the end of the world by any means. i'd rather have the walking foot. i have a locking stitch on my machine but honestly back stitching does the exact same thing basically. i backstitch to lock the stitch more than i use my locking stitch. and push button start??? what you can press that foot pedal yourself to start the machine? if your foot hurts from sewing for so long so that now you need to use a button to start your machine stitching you should probably think about taking a break. i sort of wish that i had bought a bernina instead of a viking, but really only because ALL of the quilting stores around my general vicinity are bernina/pfaff stores, except for the joann store. during the quilt shop hop last year all but one of the stores i visited were bernina stores. anyway, my point is that parts are more readily available and people who know your machine are more readily available whereas with my viking i'm stuck with the ladies at joann. all this to say that i think it sounds like a good deal. i'd definitely go with a viking or a bernina or an elna, something really good because brother and white and singer are...just ok. my mom has a brother and i hate it. check for things like ease of filling a bobbin, i think that's more important that a lock stitch. do you have to oil the machine ever? if so, don't buy it. there are plenty of really good comparable machines that don't have to be oiled. oiling is ancient! check for compatability with the presserfeet currently on the market. check for buttonhole stitch. can an automatic buttonholer be attached? i'd love to have an automatic buttonholer. what about stich regulation. can that machine accept a bernina stitch regulator? that would be FABULOUS to have! ok, that's my thoughts, i'll let you know if i think of more.

push button start as in the locking start and stop button.... which you already said you don't use very much.

I wish I knew enough about sewing machines to help here...I have a start stop button but it only works on the embroidery. I just discovered that I have a walking foot, but I have no idea what it is for. I guess I could use a few lessons! Oh, and I do have a lockign stitch, and I use it a lot. I also have the needle down function and I like it, but my old machine didn't have it and I got used to manually putting it down when I needed it.
