Grinch

I am taking this moment to request a promise from each of you. When this time rolls around next year promise me to remind me that I abhor making Christmas cookies. They don't taste good, they're messy, I am always unprepared for them, they're always a disaster, I always lose my cool and yell at the kids and then feel stupid later on. Please remind me of this and tell me to make scones or biscotti instead.

Hear, hear! I am with you on that. Not only can I not eat the cookies once they are done - no matter how they taste, they smell good and I want to eat them! Plus the mess...But, kids love doing it and I told the boys we would make some too. I will be Mrs. Clause on the outside, but Scrooge on the inside for sure!

you should use the cookie press i gave you years ago! they would be small, but the girls could sprinkle stuff on them. or is that the messy part?

I agree with the cookies... though I have come to realize that it is the decorating part that they can do, not the actual shapping of them.... till they get older. then when they are ready to clean up the mess they make they can help shape them.

I hear you on that one, and I don't even have kids to share the experience with. I get mad at the dough and the rolling pin and everythink else in sight! Is is worth all the work, yes, but it still is a lot. Cookie press??? Is that easier and you don't have to roll out the dough, maybe I should look into that! If it means I don't have to roll I would be buying that right away!!!!

you don't have to roll out the dough but there are things about it that make it just as labor intensive as rolling them out. like, because of the nature of the cookie dough you MUST wash and dry the cookie sheet every time you put a new batch on the pan or the cookie dough will not stick to the pan and it won't make the neat shape. you can use parchment paper and you won't have to wash as much(wax paper does not work the same as parchment, believe me i almost started a fire in the oven by putting wax paper in there). when you want to change shapes it's a little slippery and the clean up is tedius BUT despite all that cookie press cookies are delicious and fun to make. i think they are less stressful than christmas cookies.
