lol, I think it is a tie!

Since I can't vote, since I didn't make most of the soups I think we have a tie on our hands! It is down to Tomato soup or Baked Potato!

Hmmm...now that's interesting. It's up to Marie, I think, since this is her idea.

Marie!!! FIX IT! Ahhhhh...

what? you guys don't even vote for me and now i have to keep this thing going? sheesh! where's the love?

hehe... just joking. i blame it all on joanna for dissing my peas right away.

i think we should have two winners. there aren't many prizes to choose from though, so it just might mean that all you get is to brag to your family that you won. so...

congrats to Joanna and Johanna! let me know if you like any of the things i posted for the prize pot. or if any of you have anything to contribute, now would be a good time!

i have to say, i had such a hard time making a decision as to which one i liked best. there was one that i liked so much because it made my try something new (potato and leaks), one because i know i'll be making it a lot (tortilla soup), one because shane said it's the only kind he's ever liked (tomato), but i ended up going with the one that overall, we liked the taste the best (loaded baked potato). thank you all so much for posting the recipes. i was surprised at how much shane appreciated taste testing all of them. we all look forward to trying the breakfast recipes and i've already prepared them for the good possibility that we will be eating waffles, pancakes or eggs for dinner :)

We can give it to Johanna, because I couldn't decide whether I should vote for my favorite or the family's favorite and I ended up voting for my favorite. But the family liked the loaded baked potato soup so much that I made it twice. Del was shocked that I picked my favorite and said that I should have voted for the family's, so there you go. Our official winner is Johanna.

I really did like making all the soups, also. The split pea soup was more difficult to make than I thought it would be and, although it wasn't my favorite, both Del and Ella expressed a great appreciation for it. I thought the leek and potato soup was really good. I hadn't expected to like it at all but the flavor of a leek turns out to be very mild and it was delicious. Ella and I both ate that soup for breakfast a couple of times. The tortilla soup was my favorite because I like spicey, cheesy, tomatoey yummy goodness with tortilla chips on top. It was right up my alley.

I am definitely looking forward to this months recipes!

This was a great idea Marie! I am really enjoying it.

There. I changed my vote to reflect the entire family's choice, instead of just mine.

the tortilla soup was actually my favorite too! but i went with the baked potato because that was shane's favorite was a tie between the baked potato and tomato and also, because it was the easiest to force caleb to eat.

i'm sorry that the pea soup was difficult. i guess i thought it was easy cause i have the immersion blender. was the difficult part where you had to transfer it to the food processor? did you do it in the crock pot?

I was very confused by the split peas. I put them in the crock pot, but I should have put them in in the morning instead of the afternoon and they were crunchy until I put them on the stove and they softened up quite a bit almost right away. It taught me quite a bit about the nature of crock pots. And yes, I think it would have been easier with an immersion blender, for sure!

that's weird about the peas. i didn't do anything to them except rinse and throw into the crock pot. you must have bought weird peas. don't do that next time.

I did the same Jo, I chose the soup that was MY favorite (tomato) instead of what my family liked most. The favorite around here was Baked Potato Soup, BY FAR. Even with my husband, who is not a soup person. We have had it 3 or 4 times now. I even made it for my friend when she came to lunch and her family loves it as well.
For prizes I am stumped as to what to throw into the pot. Some spotted dick perhaps? Hee hee.
I will try to think of something, though.
