Haha here are some pictures of my onions in panty hose. They look almost decorative. So I did a little research yesterday and had found the same tips about stringing them up like this. I'm just not really sure where to hang them. Cool, dry, well ventilated, and dark. Who has an area like this in their house?? Right now they're in my kitchen, but I can move them if I can come up with another place. I've already used about a third of the bag I got over the past few days. Here's the recipe I found and cooked tonight. It was quite good, but that's probably to be expected with the cream and cheese :)
Sweet Onion Casserole
- 1 pound sweet onions, sliced into rings
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Place onion slices in a medium saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil; boil for 1 minute. Drain onions; transfer to an 8-inch square baking dish. In a small bowl combine egg, cream, salt and pepper. Pour mixture over onions. Sprinkle with cheese and paprika. Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Serves 6.

ewww... onion casserole, really? I think you guys are crazy freaks. I only like my onions finely chopped into itty-bitty-microscopic bits and buried in something yummy. Like potatoes. Or tortilla soup *wink wink*
Hmmm...I'm not sure about that dish either. But honestly? I think this blog has done more to expand my palate than anything else. Like the potato and leek soup? Um, can you say DELICIOUS? Ella was eating it for breakfast for two days after I made it.
Can you hang it in your pantry? That's where I put my onions. I've never bought so many that I had to string them up though.
Great new decor, Leah! I have a room like that in my house simply because I have a laundry room with no windows that is the size of a small bedroom. The moisture would be a problem when I did a lot of wash, but there is a ceiling fan and big door, so I think I could keep it ventillated enough. But to be honest, I've never seen a house with quite so large a dark room as this!
you know, just two years ago i woudln't even touch onions. i don't know what's happening to me, but now i love them!
Me, too! Isn't that funny! I can barely make a meal without putting onions in it anymore. But for the longest time I detested them. My very favorite onion is the purple onion. It's so yummy.
I found four recipes for Vidalia onions that I'd love to try.
Vidalia Onion Pesto
Herbed Vidalia Onion Tea Sandwiches
Oven Poached Salmon a la Paige With Dill, Vidalia Onion and Cucumber Relish
Saturday Night Vidalia Onions
I suppose you could actually use the onions in any recipe that calls for onions, but I thought those sounded particularly yummy.
