Fabric Grocery Bags

A long time ago, Meagan posted a link to a tutorial for fabric grocery bags. At the time I thought it was a really great idea but never got around to making them. Well, this is the year for that project. My mom made some also so she made the pattern. I invented the little pouch to hold it in, based off some wallets I made for the girls.

This one is probably for my neighbor.

I love that you made a bag for the bag! I really want to make this because I always forget my reusable bags. I mean, when you have one kid in a car seat in one arm and a toddler in the other arm, how can you remember reusable grocery bags? It would be nice to just have them in my enormous purse.

Wow, I was the inspiration! that doesn't happen much.

Just so you know, if you put a large enough pocket on the outside of the bag, you can fold the entire bag into it sort of like those blankets you made several years ago.... you kinda just fold the bag "hotdog" style in thirds and then flip the pocket inside out and viola!

I tend to find though that one never stops using the bag enough to actually put it away... they kind of become catch alls for everything.

Yes, the tutorial has the instructions for the pocket, but I really liked the zippered pouch...because it's cute. And functional.

wow that is the original pattern! I never thought I would find that again!.... I have it all memorized by the sheer number of times i have used it.... and actually have modified it. I don't do the french seam, I thought it was too thick for my machine.

I love those bags. I have wondered if re-usable bags were as big in America as they are here. I so wish I had a machine and someone to teach me. (and a bigger house to fit more craft-related stuff in). sigh.
Marie is right. It is way too cute to be only used for groceries. :-)
